UP teen approaches police to stop partially paralysed father’s 7th marriage

VARANASI: A 17-year-old boy sought help from Ahraula police in Azamgarh after his partially paralysed father beat him for opposing his bid to marry for the seventh time at the age of 55.When questioned, Amarjeet Maurya admitted that he already married six women. Amarjeet’s relatives disclosed that his first wife died days after the wedding, while the second one died after delivering three daughters. The other four wives, including the mother of this minor son, preferred separation as he refused to transfer his land to them. The son said that Amarjeet forced him to work as a labourer to clear debts he took by mortgaging parental land to fulfil his wish to marry more women after his mother left them for another man.The boy said, “I became aware that my father wanted to marry for the seventh time. I opposed this move because some neighbours were eyeing my father’s 3.5 bigha land, and they were misleading him to borrow more money from them. I wanted to stop him from marrying another woman and taking dues to save the same land. But when I reached home to talk to my father, he assaulted me.”“When this boy turned up with his complaint, the Ahraula police station in-charge was asked to probe the matter. Initial investigation revealed a property dispute between the father and son. However, the course of action will be decided once the probe is completed,” said ASP (rural) Chirag Jain.
