BENGALURU: The Lamborghini “drifting” stunt case near Anil Kumble Circle has taken a dramatic turn, with the counsel of Ricky Rai, son of former underworld don Muthappa Rai, claiming that the incident was not a stunt but a brake-related skid.Rai appeared before Cubbon Park traffic police Monday evening after securing anticipatory bail and recorded his statement, insisting that he was not driving the car when the alleged drifting occurred early Saturday on MG Road. His counsel, G Narayanswamy, told the media that the incident was “misinterpreted as a drifting stunt.” Rai’s driver was behind the wheel at the time. “There was no nuisance between 2am and 3am, and traffic would have been minimal. The car was at a service centre, and the driver took it out. Ricky Rai was in the car, but he was not driving,” he claimed.Narayanswamy said the car skidded when the driver applied brakes on a recently repaired road allegedly covered with mud. “The driver managed to control the vehicle and continued driving. His skill should be appreciated,” he said. He alleged that Rai was being unfairly targeted. “In similar cases of drifting or wheeling, police usually impose spot fines and release vehicles. Why was an FIR registered here? This is at best a Rs 1,000-fine case,” he argued, adding that Rai, who returned from Russia just a day before the incident, was questioned for nearly three hours.Meanwhile, traffic police released before-and-after visuals of the car on social media, blurring Rai’s face. A senior officer confirmed that the driver has admitted to driving, and investigation is on.
