GoPro is set to reduce its workforce. The latest move is part of a restructuring effort by the US-based wearable camera maker, aimed at lowering costs and improving its financial position. According to a Wall Street Journal report, the company recently announced that its board has approved a plan that will result in job cuts.The report claims that the action camera maker plans to cut 23% of its workforce, affecting around 145 employees out of a total headcount of 631 at the end of the first quarter. The company is reportedly planning to complete the layoffs by the end of the year, with the process expected to commence in the second quarter.GoPro said it expects to incur charges between $11.5 million and $15 million related to the restructuring plan, including severance payments and healthcare benefits. Earlier, the company’s CEO and founder, Nicholas Woodman, told analysts that it was facing “macroeconomic pressures,” including tariffs and higher memory costs, as well as supply constraints.

GoPro falls short of profitability expectations set last year

In 2025, GoPro said it expected to return to profitability by the end of the fiscal year but reported a fourth-quarter loss of $9.1 million, or 6 cents per share. The San Mateo, California-based company has been working to reduce operating expenses as its full-year revenue declined in 2025. In the latest fourth quarter, it said costs were down 26% compared with the previous year.To address slowing growth, GoPro has expanded its hardware and software portfolio. The company is introducing AI-related products, including an image processor. Last fall, Woodman invested $2 million in the company to support the development of new products.GoPro also carried out two rounds of job cuts in 2024, reducing its workforce by 4% in the first quarter and 25% in the third quarter. The company had 696 employees at the end of 2024.
