Sharmila Tagore has earlier spoken about being diagnosed with Cancer. The conversation happened when the ‘Amar Prem’ actress appeared on ‘Koffee With Karan’ with Saif Ali Khan. At that point, Karan Johar had revealed that Sharmila Tagore was the original choice for ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ for Shabana Azmi’s role but she couldn’t do it due to Cancer. Now in a recent interview, Soha Ali Khan has opened up on this phase when her mom was diagnosed with stage one lung cancer.During a special Mother’s Day episode on Soha’s podcast ‘All About Her’, which featured Neetu Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Soha reflected on how the experience transformed her relationship with her mother and encouraged their family to communicate more openly.
Speaking about the moment Sharmila Tagore shared her diagnosis, Soha said, “My mother and I were never the kind to say ‘I love you’ to each other on the phone. In fact, when she told me she had been diagnosed with stage one lung cancer, she said it was because we don’t express ourselves enough, and that we must communicate more as a family.” She further revealed that her mother had come across a book emphasising the importance of emotional expression within families.“She had read a book that spoke about the importance of expressing emotions. We were never very demonstrative, you know, like some families are,” Soha added. Reflecting on generational differences in expressing affection, the actor said, “People from that generation also didn’t really know how to express their love. Perhaps people back then were not as expressive.”Soha Ali Khan has been a part of the Hindi film industry for nearly two decades and is known for films such as Rang De Basanti, Tum Mile, Khoya Khoya Chand and Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge. On the personal front, Soha is married to actor Kunal Kemmu, and the couple are parents to their daughter Inaaya Kemmu. She is also the sister of actor Saif Ali Khan and sister-in-law of actor Kareena Kapoor Khan.Apart from acting, Soha actively creates informative content on social media and hosts her podcast All About Her, where she frequently discusses women’s health, lifestyle changes and various aspects of womanhood.
