TVK shares video of AMMK MLA writing support letter as Tamil Nadu govt suspense continues — Watch

NEW DELHI: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) late Friday shared a video purportedly showing AMMK MLA-elect Kamaraj writing a letter extending support to Vijay’s party, sharply rejecting claims by AMMK general secretary T. T. V. Dhinakaran that the document was forged amid the fast-moving government formation battle in Tamil Nadu. The row erupted after Dhinakaran rushed to Lok Bhavan to meet Governor Rajendra Arlekar and submitted a letter asserting that AMMK’s lone MLA-elect remained loyal to the NDA and AIADMK alliance. He also backed AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami as the alliance’s chief ministerial candidate. However, TVK dismissed the allegations and released a video claiming it showed Kamaraj voluntarily writing the support letter.“These are the video visuals of AMMK MLA Kamaraj voluntarily and happily writing a letter expressing his support for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. He had stated that he was extending support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam with the approval of AMMK General Secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran,” the party said.TVK further alleged that false information was now being circulated to discredit the development. “However, the information now being spread that he did not write the letter is completely false and contrary to the truth. It is essential for everyone to clearly understand this. Concealing all these facts, T.T.V. Dhinakaran is continuing to spread false news and misinformation,” the statement added. The Vijay-led party also insisted it was not indulging in political bargaining to secure support. “The public should understand that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has no need to bargain or negotiate with anyone,” it said.TVK emerged as the single-largest party in the 234-member Assembly with 108 seats, falling 10 short of the majority mark. The party has since been seeking backing from smaller parties and independents to stake claim to form the government.Congress, which won five seats, along with CPI and CPI(M), which secured two seats each, have already extended support to TVK, marking a dramatic political realignment in the state and putting pressure on the long-standing DMK-Congress alliance.Congress MP Manickam Tagore accused political rivals of attempting to block Vijay’s path to power despite what he described as a public mandate.“Those who were defeated by the people are once again rearing their heads and attempting to prevent Mr Vijay from becoming Chief Minister,” Tagore wrote on X, adding, “Power may delay the people’s verdict, but it can never suppress it forever.”
