On the occasion of Ram Navami, filmmaker SS Rajamouli and the team behind ‘Varanasi’ extended their greetings to fans and devotees of lord Ram, by offering a tease of their upcoming film. In an official post from their social media handle, the team shared the film’s epic Ramayana sequence, which sees Lord Ram with his bow and arrow, ready to battle Ravana. They shared the post with a note that read, “You’ll see him in theatres by next Sri Rama Navami.” The film has been confirmed for an April 7, 2027 release, a week ahead of Ram Navami in 2027. Starring Mahesh Babu in a dual role, the film will see the actor portray Lord Ram as part of a pivotal narrative arc. The teased sequence is said to be central to the film’s storyline, with Rajamouli reportedly dedicating an extensive 60-day shooting schedule to film a 25-minute-long epic battle scene.Mounted on a grand scale, ‘Varanasi’ will also feature Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran in key roles, as they travel through time and set out on an epic adventure. Besides ‘Varanasi’, the team behind Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’ is also rumoured to be releasing new material on the auspecious day. The film starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead as Lord Ram with Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, is slated for a Diwali 2026 release. Also coming in time for the festival, the first poster of the upcoming film ‘Valmiki Ramayana’ was unveiled on Thursday. helmed by Bhavna Talwar, and brings together an accomplished team of creative stalwarts committed to presenting the epic with authenticity and emotional depth. Renowned production designer Sabu Cyril leads the visual world-building, while celebrated author Anand Neelakantan has written the screenplay, drawing directly from the original Valmiki Ramayana. The film is set to release in theatres on October 2.
