CM Rekha Gupta meets 3 northeast women, says ‘no scope of hatred, racial abuse in Delhi’

NEW DELHI: Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday met the three young women from Arunachal Pradesh who had allegedly been racially abused and threatened by a couple in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Feb 20.The CM described the three as resilient, courageous and full of promise. She also met a delegation from the community they belong to and assured its members of her full support.

Gupta said Delhi is a city of diversity, respect and mutual dignity, and made it clear that the strictest action will be taken against the perpetrators. “There is absolutely no place for hatred, discrimination, intimidation or racial abuse in Delhi. Such behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” Gupta said.She urged people not to politicise the “sensitive matter”, saying the dignity, safety and future of the young students must remain above all else. She also appealed to everyone to respect their privacy and that of their families, and give them the space, support and assurance they need during this “difficult time”.
