Trump to visit China in April; signals ‘very good’ equation with Xi Jinping

US President Donald Trump will be meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping in April, while Xi is expected to visit the US later this year. Trump, without announcing an exact date of the meeting, described the US’s relationship with China as “very good”.Trump, speaking to the reporters, said, “I’ll be visiting President Xi Jinping in April. He’s coming here later in the year, and I look forward to it. Our relationship with China is very good right now.”

On February 4, Trump reportedly had a 90-minute phone call with his Chinese counterpart, which he later detailed as being about trade, military, Taiwan, Russia-Ukraine war, China’s oil and gas purchase from the US and other important topics.Trump wrote, “I have just completed an excellent telephone conversation with President Xi, of China. It was a long and thorough call, where many important subjects were discussed, including Trade, Military, the April trip that I will be making to China (which I very much look forward to!), Taiwan, the War between Russia/Ukraine, the current situation with Iran, the purchase of Oil and Gas by China from the United States, the consideration by China of the purchase of additional Agricultural products including lifting the Soybean count to 20 Million Tons for the current season (They have committed to 25 Million Tons for next season!), Airplane engine deliveries, and numerous other subjects, all very positive!”Expressing optimism about the outcomes of the talks, he described the relationship between the US and China as “an extremely good one.”“The relationship with China, and my personal relationship with President Xi, is an extremely good one, and we both realise how important it is to keep it that way.” Trump wrote, “I believe that there will be many positive results achieved over the next three years of my Presidency, having to do with President Xi and the People’s Republic of China!”During the call, Xi emphasised that the United States and China should pursue “win-win outcomes” based on equality and mutual respect, Chinese state media Xinhua reported.China further urged Washington to roll back what it described as negative measures against China, according to a readout from China’s ministry of foreign affairs.
