'Major milestone': Noida international airport to begin flight operations from June 15

NEW DELHI: Commercial flight operations at Noida International Airport in Jewar will begin on June 15, the airport announced on Friday, marking the launch of a new aviation hub in the National Capital Region (NCR) aimed at enhancing passenger travel, cargo movement and regional connectivity.The announcement follows the inauguration of the airport by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the approval of the Aerodrome Security Programme by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, confirming that all required security systems and procedures are in place ahead of operations.IndiGo will operate the first flight from the airport, initiating scheduled passenger services, with Akasa Air and Air India Express expected to follow shortly. Details on routes, schedules and passenger services are yet to be released.In a post on X, the airport’s official account said, “A major milestone in the journey of Noida International Airport. We are pleased to announce that #NIAirport will commence commercial flight operations from 15th June 2026, opening a new gateway for passengers, airlines and cargo operators in the National Capital Region and North India. IndiGo will operate the first flight, followed shortly by Akasa Air and Air India. We look forward to welcoming our first passengers soon!”

Noida International Airport

In a press release, the airport claimed that the infrastructure would cater to rising air travel demand.It described the airport’s design as modern terminal infrastructure with multimodal connectivity.The launch is expected to boost regional connectivity and create opportunities in tourism, trade and investment across the northern region.Noida International Airport, with IATA code DXN, is a greenfield project developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh and Union governments. The concession period for the project began on October 1, 2021 and spans 40 years.The airport currently has one runway and one passenger terminal with an annual capacity of 12 million passengers.
