PUNE: A nine-year-old girl stood second in Std III and her elder brother first in Std IV. She altered her rank with that of the latter, after he teased her.Little did she know her father would brutally kill her by using a chainsaw and later burn their house to cover up the crime for her act.The incident occurred at Deulgaon Raje village in Daund taluka, about 100km from the city on Sunday evening. The girl’s father, Shantaram Chavan (33), a daily wage worker, and a woman were arrested under sections 103 (murder) and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Inspector Gopal Pawar of the Daund police said. “The son of the daily wage worker teased his sister about her marks on Saturday. The duo had a playful dispute over it.”The officer said the girl later changed her rank from second to first in the marksheet, and altered her brother’s rank from first to second. When the daily wage worker came to know about it, he became furious.“He killed his daughter by using a chainsaw cutter on Sunday evening. He slit her throat with the machine. He then covered her body in a sari and set their house on fire,” Pawar said.He said the accused later created a scene, claiming that their house caught fire and his daughter was trapped inside. “We, however, got the information that the man killed his daughter and tried to destroy the evidence,” Pawar said.He said the police recovered the half-burnt body of the girl from the house. “We have sent it to Sassoon General Hospital for a DNA test,” he said.Pawar said the police arrested the man and the woman, who helped him to hush up the matter. “Our investigations are on,” he said.
