NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon, to undergo a minor procedure, news agency ANI reported on Wednesday. Sonia Gandhi is one of the most influential leaders of the Indian National Congress. She is the widow of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and mother of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.Sonia Gandhi formally entered politics in 1997, years after Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, following repeated appeals from Congress leaders. She became Congress president in 1998 and went on to serve for 22 consecutive years until 2017, making her the longest-serving president in the party’s history. She again took over the post in 2019 and remained at the helm for another three years.(With agency inputs)
